Eugenio Cruz Ossa

years old, from Santiago, Chile

I'm a Chilean researcher and data scientist currently based in Switzerland, where I'm a visiting researcher at EPFL working on online algorithms for matching problems. Back home, I'm co-founder and Lead Data Scientist at Teapot, where we're building data-driven solutions for the education sector, optimizing and digitalizing learning through artificial intelligence. I hold a Master's degree in Engineering Sciences with a diploma in Industrial Engineering and Systems from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. I also graduated with summa cum laude from Mathematical & Computational Engineering, earning recognition as the best student of my specialty. My thesis focused on online algorithms with applications in pricing.

Mathematics has always been my true passion. I'm particularly fascinated by stochastic processes, optimization, and graph theory, areas where elegant theoretical frameworks meet practical applications. There's something deeply satisfying about finding the optimal solution to a complex problem, whether it's in an academic paper or a real-world business challenge.

I consider myself a pretty calm person who always tries to keep composure, even in challenging situations. Outside of work, I'm drawn to the outdoors. Rock climbing has introduced me to some incredible people and taught me patience and problem-solving in a completely different context. I grew up with a deep love for water skiing. It was my passion throughout my youth, and I even competed in the Chilean nationals. I was also part of Los Andes ski team at La Parva Center as a kid. Nowadays, snow skiing has become more of a family tradition that I cherish. I love animals and enjoy going camping whenever I get the chance to disconnect and immerse myself in nature.

When I'm not crunching numbers or hanging off a cliff, you'll probably find me with headphones on or binge-watching series. Music is a big part of my life. It keeps me company during long coding sessions, motivates me on the wall, and helps me unwind after a day of research. I also enjoy cooking as a way to disconnect and experiment with flavors.

I'm passionate about photography and love capturing moments from my adventures and travels. Board games are another big interest of mine, especially Hive, which is hands down my favorite game. There's something about the strategic depth and elegant simplicity that really appeals to me.
